AUK Students to Represent 51Թ at Iraq Universities Debate Championship in Qatar /auk-students-to-represent-kurdistan-at-iraq-universities-debate-championship-in-qatar/ Wed, 28 Feb 2024 05:56:41 +0000 /?p=26144 On February 25, 2024, The University of 51Թ Hewlêr (UKH) hosted the 51Թ Region-Iraq Universities Debate Championship (KRIUDC), which was organized by The Rwanga Foundation and The International Academy for Leadership & Development (IALD). Students from the American University of 51Թ (AUK) emerged victorious and will represent 51Թ in the national debate competition in Qatar. The winner of that event will represent Iraq in a competition against other Arabic-speaking nations.

Each of the four universities represented at the competition—AUK, the University of Zakho (UoZ), Cihan University-Erbil, and Charmo University—sent a team of four students to debate in Arabic on a variety of subjects. Students were required to prepare for both arguments since they were not informed as to their assigned position. During the initial round, the AUK team, comprised of Dalal Bashar, Zahraa Mohammed, Maram Riadth, and Aesha Taha, presented counterarguments from Zakho University regarding the subject of patient-psychiatrist confidentiality. In the championship round facing Cihan University-Erbil, the AUK team argued on the principle of reward and punishment in the workplace.

“Debate is a way to exercise and stimulate all your skills, making you feel the need to invoke all the mental abilities you possess,”AUK sophomore architecture students said, adding: “A main factor in our win today was the fact that at AUK students get to practice these types of skills through workshops and student club engagement.”

As exemplified by the University’s theme of February, “Achieving a Sustainable World,” AUK promotes worldwide interconnectedness through academic achievement as a component of its tenth anniversary initiative. The institution is honored to host a diverse cohort of students hailing from different ethnic, cultural, and religious heritages, who serve as representatives of the University on an international stage while concurrently highlighting the impact our students, faculty, and staff have on the constructive transformations taking place in 51Թ and beyond.

AUK’s College of Nursing Launches the AUKLS Training Site /auks-college-of-nursing-launches-the-aukls-training-site/ Sun, 18 Feb 2024 06:40:09 +0000 /?p=25821 Duhok, 51Թ Region – February 15, 2023 – The College of Nursing at the American University of 51Թ (AUK) announced its new Life Support Training Site, AUKLS, and hosted the first introductory event for students and staff of Cihan University, in AUK’s auditorium on February 14. During the event, the three AHA-certified instructors, Dr. Layla Salih, Nergiz Fatah, and Dr. Jervy Bernardino, Dean of the College of Nursing at AUK, were introduced.

The AUKLS is Iraq’s first accredited American Heart Association (AHA) training site within a university. In his opening remarks, Dr. Jervy Bernardino emphasized the importance of learning life-saving skills, pointing out that anyone, including attendees and certificate holders, can help save lives in emergencies. “Many hospitals, universities, and other organizations provide training centers, but none of them are accredited, which means that those certificates are not recognized internationally,” he stated, adding, “Thus, the launch of the AUKLS is significant for our nursing students, health care professionals, and everyone in the community, as participants will be internationally credentialed.”

The American Heart Association (AHA) is a non-profit organization in the United States that supports cardiovascular medical research, educates the public about healthy living, and promotes cardiac care.
